Let Them Be Little - I Heart Faces Challenge

The photo theme at I Heart Faces this week is "let them be little." Don't we just love watching our littles be just that... little?

I shot this picture down at Atlantic Beach, NC, of my husband and daughter. She wanted to fly, and my husband gives her wings in so many ways, least of which is spinning around in circles while raising our daughter up and down.

Yellow - I Heart Faces

The photo theme at I Heart Faces this week is yellow. It's such a fun color, and something that always make me happy are bright daisies with their yellow centers.

I shot this picture of a friend's daughter just the other day after she picked a fresh bouquet from a field.

Pet Faces - I Heart Faces

The photo theme at I Heart Faces this week brought to mind one of my favorite all-time pictures of my daughter Georgia. She just adores our two dogs, and I was able to capture this moment between her and our Boxer, Bacchus. He is an old man - 11 - but he never minds when Georgia tugs on his face or ears, bats at him or does really anything to him. He just returns that faithful love dogs are so well-known for.

To me, this picture is love.

Slice of Life - I Heart Faces

My daughter and I do so much throughout our day, each moment a little slice of life. So many moments to chose from for this week's I Heart Faces theme, but I think it's the simple slices that speak to me most.

At 17 months old, one of my daughter's new loves is coloring. She colors in her books, on her face, on the walls, on the appliances, on the couch, on the carpet - yeah parents, you know the drill. But I love to watch her when she gets lost in her next masterpiece, which was just what she was doing in this slice of our day.

RED - Go Red for Women - I Heart Faces

The theme for this week's I Heart Faces challenge is red, in honor of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women. It's a cause I have worked with through the years with my job - from wearing red on Go Red Day to raise awareness among thousands of viewers, to shooting promos to raise awareness, to even last year when I painted a "celebrity" picture to be auctioned off to raise money for the American Heart Association. So when I saw this week's theme, I knew I had to enter to raise awareness for anyone who might read this blog.

My picture for the week is of my daughter, who I will raise to make sure she is aware of the risks women do face when it comes to heart disease and other heart issues. She was also the topic of that picture I painted for charity. And although the serious issues and talks with my daughter will come one day about things like heart disease, the risks and the symptoms - right now she's only 16 months old and this is the time for the innocence of childhood. Like her first spin in her new, red Radio Flyer wagon. That's a red of childhood I think many of us remember.

She looked back as if to say "mommy, what are you doing on the ground? Come along with us silly!"

Heart disease has some very un-silly facts though. Heart disease is still the #1 killer of women, taking the life of 1 in 3 women each year. Some of the signs of a heart attack include:
- Chest discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back.
- Discomfort in other areas like one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath, breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
- Women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

Best Fact Photo - I Heart Faces

Time for Best Face Photo of January 2011 at I Heart Faces. Hmm... what's my favorite face photo of the month? There are several, but I think I love the simplicity and happiness of this bath time photo:

Innocent Wonder - I Heart Faces

This week's theme is "innocent wonder." That describes Georgia's entire trip to the zoo a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't her first trip, but it was the first time she was old enough to "get it." Everything amazed her, including the penguins.

Here she was trying to grab them as they darted by her.
