May 4, 2010 - New Kicks

It is a brave new world out there in Georgia land. We are leaving behind those wimpy little socks, those are for babies! We're moving on to shoes. Georgia wore her first pair today and actually kept them on for most of daycare.

This must mean walking is not too far down our life path. This growing up thing needs to slow down a little. Maybe we won't ditch those baby socks after all.

May 3, 2010 - Reverting Back?

What is it about things you say will never happen? Like I never thought I'd be the kind of mom that would let my house look like the movie set of "Twister" (post tornado), but yeah, I'm that kind of mom. Or at one point in my life, I never thought I'd live in a house that looks like everyone else's in the subdivision, in a subdivision that looks like every other one in the city, yet here I am. Or I never thought married relationships could be made up of two people utterly happy with the other, who respect, love and cherish each other, yet happily, I have one of those. ( I just had to add that one!)

I'm taking the long way around to say this. I never, ever thought I'd say it, but this is starting to look pretty good to me:

No, not the prune mixture Georgia is happily gobbling up. (by the way, yeah for that). No, the fact that she's eating solid food. I thought I'd be one of those moms who struggled one day to begin the weaning process because it's the beginning of the end to nursing. But lately I feel like Georgia and I are taking the way back machine all the way back to her birth. OK, not that long ago, I know, but in her life it is. But those couple of weeks after her glorious birthday, nursing was, well, a bitch. It was difficult and painful and a struggle. Now that Georgia has teeth and has decided (with a grin) to use them in a way not too pleasing to mommy, I'm feeling like I'm right back there in October of 2009.

I know, I know, this will pass and I'll be back to loving every beautiful, bonding moment I spend with Georgia as she lies against me, gobbling up my milk instead of a sticky prune/oatmeal concoction. And it's not like we haven't hit some nursing road bumps before and gotten through them. OK, crater-like, car-swallowing potholes: January 8th, January 14th, January 15th. But it has been a smooth, sunny drive for the most part ever since. And we're working on the biting thing, just like we'll work through all the life bumps ahead of us. We still have almost six more months of nursing to go, so we've got plenty of time. Mommy/daughter time.

May 2, 2010 - It's a Walk in the Park

I love state and national parks. I love the intricate beauties they hold and reveal to you layer upon layer as you delve deeper and deeper into them. And I love that there is nothing commercial or overpriced about them. It makes them feel honest and clean and good, and what a better way to spend the afternoon with my two favorites? So we headed to nearby Mahoney State Park today.

We found this luscious iris garden there, just starting to reveal its beauty petal by awakening petal.

And can you tell my little one just loves being worn in her Baby Bjorn? Ever since we turned her around so she's taking on the world face to face, she just hoots and hollers and swings her arms and legs. She is a sight to behold.

We also climbed a high lookout tower, where there was nothing between us and the heavenly sky.

Just before heading home, with that exhausted but incredibly happy feeling that is just bliss, I caught daddy and daughter taking a quick break in the coolness under a great oak.

Yes, this beautiful park revealed herself to us today. All of her beauties in turn beautified our souls.

April 30, 2010 - A Contradictory Onsie

My little Georgia in her Georgia (Uga) onsie. How fitting.

This little outfit is a canvas of contradictions for me. Bitter and sweet, happiness and sadness, love and dislike - whichever you choose.

Happiness in that it suites my little lovely so well, plus it stands for my Alma Matter and the place where I met my husband. Perfect. And it was a gift from my mother (Georgia's Oma) before Georgia was born.

Sadness comes though from that last sentence. My mother sent me several outfits for Georgia before she passed away, but this is the last one Georgia will ever fit into. This is the largest size my mother sent, and after this one, there is nothing. No more clothes to dress her in and say, "your Oma sent you this because she loved you before she even knew you. She loves you still." No more little outfits to dress Georgia in knowing that in her final days, my mom picked it out with my little lovely in mind.

See? Contradictions. But enough of the sadness. She's too beautiful of a baby for all that.

April 29, 2010 - Little Friends

Not much time for a picture today, so one of Georgia's little friends will have to do. Actually, Georgia has a lot of little friends, it's amazing how much stuff she already has at the wee age of 6+ months.

This little guy is a dragonfly. I bought him before Georgia's grand debut.

I thought he would fit in well with her nursery theme - garden/butterflies. Ha, my pregnant, first-timer innocence. I actually thought Georgia's toys and such would stay in her room and have a need to "fit" the theme. I don't think this little guy has seen Georgia's nursery yet! He lives in the middle of our living room, which now sports a "Georgia" theme.
